Implementing Lifestyle Medicine into Occupational Therapy Education and Practice

In recognition of World Occupational Therapy Day, Ardmore Institute of Health (AIH) is sharing resources to support the integration of Lifestyle Medicine within Occupational Therapy (OT) education and practice.

In 2021, AIH provided grant funding to Keck Graduate Institute to create a Lifestyle Medicine-informed OT curriculum, and as a result, the Keck team created a two-year and eight-month doctorate curriculum. Click here to access the project's final report and learn more.

In 2024, AIH provided grant funding to the American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM) to increase access to Lifestyle Medicine amongst health professionals and close gaps in health equity by growing the Lifestyle Medicine workforce. This resulted in ACLM creating a video podcast featuring experts in the field to support OT professionals in integrating Lifestyle Medicine. Click here to watch the panel discussion.

Together, Keck and ACLM created a brochure that outlines how OT professionals can provide skilled Lifestyle Medicine-informed services. Click here to download the brochure.

AIH works for a future where healthy environments and lifestyles provide equitable and preferred methods to prevent, treat, and reverse chronic diseases. Because OT focuses on maximizing health through engagement in meaningful daily life activities, OT professionals are uniquely positioned to implement Lifestyle Medicine and help us achieve our vision.
